Solid Oak Strip Sanding

GO BACK

Our clients had traditional solid strip hardwood floors fitted throughout the ground floor of this home . The floor had originally been finished with traditional lacquer / varnish that had yellowed considerably over the years. This gave the floor a tired, orange like appearance. Considerable renovations were carried out, and the existing floor was added to, to facilitate a new kitchen, and a wall removed in the large room overlooking the garden.

Timberwolf sanded the whole floor area (approx. 140m2) including the patched areas & the newly laid section in the kitchen. Many hours of sanding went into restoring this large area, concentrating on removing the many original chatter marks. (continuous lines left by drum sanding machines) We took great care to blend the existing floor into the newly laid sections, with fine sanding, buffing and mass filling the whole floor using special resins mixed with fine sawdust. This gave the floor a seamless appearance, even upon careful inspection, it was impossible to see where the new floors and the patched in areas met the original hardwood flooring.

This customer had decided that they wanted an oiled finish for the floor, as opposed a lacquer this time round, having considerable experience of such oils through their own furniture company. We used a true ‘Danish Oil’ with white pigment and machine buffed the oil into the floor. This oil totally transformed the appearance of the oak flooring, giving a traditional hardwood strip floor a new lease of life. In transforming the oak strip floor, the whole ground floor took on a new light and contemporary look with a ‘Scandinavian’ feel.

The benefit of using oil in this instance, and for many of our customers who choose this option is that the floor can be maintained by the home owner and re-coated as and when necessary. No sanding is necessary to hide areas or patches of heavy wear. A coat of maintenance oil is simply lightly buffed into the floor, blending perfectly into the unaffected areas.
