Reducing The Amount Of Dust Generated

The main obvious measure you need to take when sanding is to try and create as little dust as absolutely possible. However, the most obvious way to reduce the amount of dust is to use water. However, this is not possible. This is because too much water will damage the wood that we are actually trying to save! It is, therefore, essential that you use the right dust-free equipment. That is why you need to Timberwolf.

Here at Timberwolf, we offer a dust-free wooden floor sanding service. We use the best Bona sanding equipment on all of our projects. This is because the equipment they supply is of an extremely high standard and are excellent at cutting down on dust. Most other sanders operate with a cloth bag that collects the dust as you sand the floor. This is good for larger dust fragments, however, finer dust can escape from the bag. It also means that some of the finer dust will remain on the floor, become airborne and end up in our lungs. This is obviously bad for our health! When we use the Bona sanding system, we are using a unique powerful sanding system that has been specifically designed in order to reduce the amount of dust produced. This is because this system actually collects 99.8% of the dust created by sanding the floor! This not only cuts down the amount of time taken to clean up upon completion of the project but also reduces the number of health risks created by sanding the floor.

So Why Is Dust-Free Sanding Important?

When some of our clients first thought about having their wooden floors sanded, they expressed concern regarding the known health issues that may occur through sanding floors. When discussing health concerns regarding dust the biggest issue that first comes to mind is respiration issues, however, most people are less aware of some of the other possible health issues caused by the dust particles created when sanding wooden floors.

To enable you to understand some of the risks of wood dust, we have listed 3 of the top problems associated with sanding. We will then, explain how, here at Timberwolf, we minimise the risks of having your floor sanded.

Damgage To Our Lungs

Similar to asbestos, fine particles of dust can hang in the air and we breathe them in. Wood dust isn't as life-threatening to asbestos, but it can cause very small wounds to the lungs. These wounds are not immediately noticeable but can diminish the capacity of the lungs over time.

Irritation

Wood dust can cause a number of irritations, including itching, sneezing skin flushing etc.

Sensitivity

Some of the wood used on wooden floors actually become more sensitive to us on repeated exposure. Put simply, we start to react worse on each subsequent contact with the wood.

We have listed 3 problems of wood floor sanding, but there are many more. Now we will talk to you about how, here at Timberwolf, we minimise the risks associated with floor sanding.
