Harewood

Versailles panel sanding & Sealing

GO BACK

This Versaille panel hardwood floor in Harewood required expert sanding and re-finishing by Timberwolf. Previously it had been oiled, unfortunately some staining had occurred due to a slight accident (culprit pictured laid on buffing pad!)

The original fitters had some issues installing these engineered panels, the sub-floor was pretty uneven, some cupping occurred due to questionable adhesive, then subsequent crowning, (3 previous sanding attempts by original installers) leaving us very little of the original wear layer to work with. Deep sanding with the big belt machine was not an option, we set about painstakingly sanding the whole floor with our flexible buffing machine. This could adapt to the contours of the original floor, sanding just enough off the top of the floor to get rid of the original oil, sanding marks and the stains, leaving us a smooth, perfectly sanded, almost glass like finish.

The main windows in the room were south facing, casting a lot of natural light across the panel floor for most of the day, anything less than a perfect sanding job would have looked pretty bad, especially as the client was leaning towards a finish with a high sheen. (matt finishes tending to disguise any slight errors in sanding) The client loved the deep rich colour that the original oil had given the oak panels, but wanted something more stain resistant for the finish this time round. We recommended one of our water based lacquers, a glossy finish was decided upon, however we primed using Amberseal, to give the floor the deep, rich depth of colour in keeping with of that the original oil, before over coating with the lacquer.
