The Edwardian Pine boards in this Fulford apartment were crying out for some TLC. Loose boards, huge gaps and an old fireplace to remove, not to mention being covered in the 'Black Plague' our nickname for the Tar based, treacle like ....smells like old boot polish, Goo ! that for some reason people in years gone by decided would look cool on their floorboards. We started by removing the old hearth and re-stitching the hearth with re-claimed pine boards. All loose boards were carefully lifted to check for pipes and services and then glued and pinned back down. Huge gaps were filled on the first visit with coarse sawdust & resin from sanding, once the boards were clean. We carried out further sanding ... filling ... sanding ... filling ... etc etc etc until the desired finish was achieved. The boards were then stained with our 'Light Oak Stain' then top coated with 2nr coats of Hardwax Oil (the photos here show the final coat still wet - hence the glossy appearance, the final sheen would be 30% satin-matt) We made bespoke solid oak Thresholds and stained to match, to tidy up abutmnets with other floor finishes - Ceramic tiles / laminate / Hardwood flooring.
