We understand that running a village hall is a stressful and busy job. This is why we are here to take off the extra stress of refurbishing your tired wooden floor. We will breathe a breath of fresh air back into your village hall!

The Next Steps After Having Your Wooden Floor Sanded

After we have finished sanding your wooden floor, we carry out the following three steps to ensure that you are left with a floor you can be proud of:

First step Once we have finished sanding your floor with our dust free machinery, we ensure that your floor is free from any debris that has been left behind. Dirt and grit are the biggest enemies when it comes to scratching your newly sanded floor. Using our dust free machinery reduces the amount of dust generated from sanding the floor, so therefore, the time it takes to clean the floor is also reduced.

Second step: Your wooden floor is then buffed using a high-speed buffing machine. This will bring out the shine from your wooden floor, and also removes any scuff marks from the wood.

Final step: We apply different types of sealers to your floor, depending on the condition of the floor and the type of wood you have. This step can only be carried out once your floor has been buffed.

You need to ensure that your floor is completely dry before you walk on it. Drying time will take between 2-4 hours, however, it will take 12-72 hours for your floor to be fully cured. This means that you should be able to walk on your floor after 4 hours, but please avoid getting the floor wet until the wood has completely cured.

Don't feel overwhelmed with any decision that you have to make regarding the refurbishment of your floor, Timberwolf is here to help!

Different Types Of Varnish

The type of finish we will use on your village hall floor will depend on the type of look and feel you want from the finished project. We have described the advantages of lacquers, (often referred to as varnish), and oil finishes below. These brief descriptions may help you decide on what finish you would like, however, if you still feel confused, then please speak to our experts.

Advantages Of Varnish

A varnish finish will protect your floor by staying on the surface of the wood. As long as you look after your floor, a coating of varnish is resistant to most spills and will prevent damage to the wood from most impacts. Another advantage of using varnish on your village hall floor is that the varnish fills the pores of the wood. This prevents any dust collecting in the pores, thus making the floor easier to clean. Making the cleaning of the floor is important so that the disruption to the village hall is kept to a minimum. It is extremely important to add that a varnished floor will typically last for 10 years or more, whereas if you use an oil finish, you will need to have the wood recoated every year or two.

We have found that a varnish finish is the most popular option. It currently makes up 90% of all our restoration projects. We know that running a village hall is a busy and stressful job, therefore, we would recommend that you use our lacquer to finish your wooden floor. It is perfect if you need a low maintenance choice and something that will last for years. Choosing this option will reduce the amount of disruption your village hall will have. When you choose a varnish finish, we will use Bona Lacquers on your wood. This is because this varnish is the word's finest and will leave you with a finish, you will want to show off!

Advantages Of Oil

Most oil finishes will penetrate into the grain of the wood to protect the wood from within. Using oil will not give you a glossy finish, however, oil gives you a rich patina finish. This type of finish is perfect if you have an antique wooden floor, or you have a floor made of exotic hardwood. An oil finish does not crack or peel like other finishes can, however, an oil finish is not as effective at protecting your wooden floor as a varnish finish. It is important to add, that if you do damage a floor that has an oil finish, it is easier to repair than if it had a varnish finish. With an oil finish, you can repair the damage by sanding the wood, without having to remove the oil finish. Once you have finished sanding away the damage, you will only need to apply one coat of oil to blend the repair into the rest of the floor.

So no matter what finish you choose to use on your village hall wooden floor, you can rest assured that you will get the best possible service from Timberwolf. We want you to be proud of your wooden floor!
